About Addi

I am graduate student at the University of Georgia studying towards a PhD. In Learning, Design, and Technology. My interest is in making education more accessible to learners in low-resource settings which are characterized by limited access to qualified, experiences instructors, and learning resources. Prior to joining the University of Georgia, I oversaw the daily operations of Learning Factory, which produces digital educational content which includes educational films, online courses, Virtual Reality experiences, and Augmented Reality devices, to support secondary education in Zimbabwe.

My research interest is enhancing the use of digital media in instruction by understanding, through the analysis of learners’ oculomotor behavior and non-verbal communication, learners’ attentiveness to the material presented through digital media.

I believe that by understanding how learners engage with digital media, instructors are better able to provide meaningful support to learners, identify opportunities to enhance learning, and give instructors insights about learners and their needs which learners, particularly learners from diverse backgrounds, are often unable to voice.

Career Goals

Upon graduation, I intend to further my interests in developing and offering instructional technologies. For this reason, I am undertaking the Graduate Certificate in Entrepreneurship alongside the Ph.D. in Learning, Design, and Technology. I believe that through this endeavor, I will be able to contribute towards making education more accessible within the communities I serve and leverage the ever-advancing capabilities of digital technologies to make learning more effective.

I also intend to continue teaching. Teaching in non-formal settings has been a major part of my career to date. Upon completion of my Ph.D., I would like to assume a teaching role which will enable me to continue to do something that I have often been complement for, and to leverage the knowledge gained through the Ph.D. While I have mostly facilitated non-formal programs, I believe that I would have a greater impact within a research-based higher education institution. The job roles presented below are examples of roles which I would ideally like to start upon completion of my Ph.D.
